Pistachio Project Carviçais · Douro Superior

Preliminary technical concept

A design intended for professional, mechanisable and digitally managed farming. Final parameters must be validated by a specialist.

Target productive area
40 ha
Reference spacing
6 × 5 m

333 trees/ha
Theoretical trees
~13,333
Average price per plant
€12
Irrigation

Variety mix

A mixed planting: two producing cultivars, each with its own pollinator.

Cultivar Role Pair Trees Share
Kerman Producing Peter 7,000 62.7%
Peter Pollinator Kerman 780 7.0%
Sirora Producing C-Especial 3,000 26.9%
C-Especial Pollinator Sirora 380 3.4%
Total allocated 11,160 100 %
Producing trees 10,000

Kerman + Peter 9.0:1 · Sirora + C-Especial 7.9:1

Pollinators 1,160

10.4%

Producing trees per pollinator 8.6:1
Still to allocate ~2,200

Theoretical trees: ~13,300

The cultivars add up to fewer trees than the spacing implies: the difference is the final split of producing trees and pollinators, to be set parcel by parcel.

Placement across the estate

Earlier-flowering cultivars go in the colder parts of the estate and later-flowering ones in the warmer parts, following the temperature differences between parcels.

Open technical decisions

The agronomic parameters are not final. They require soil and water analysis, accumulated chill and heat, and frost risk assessment.

  • Rootstock
  • Final split of producing trees and pollinators per parcel
  • Production method (organic / integrated)
  • Hydraulic sizing
